In third grade the students are tested in math and ELA reading comprehension.
On March 21-22, 2012, the students will be taking the ELA Reading Comprehension part of the MCAS. It is 2 sessions long (one session per day). This test consists of reading passages and multiple choice questions. Open-response questions are also part of this test. Open response questions require the students to answer a question accurately with details from the reading passage.
The mathematics test will be administerd on May 9 and 10. This test, taken over two days, will assess each student's grasp of the math concepts taught in 3rd grade.

The MCAS tests are based on the standards set by the Massachusetts Department of Education. Foxborough's curriculum is aligned with these standards.
The students are exposed to the same types of higher level questions throughout our school day. In fact, we regularly use past MCAS questions during our lessons and for homework. In addition, the John Collins Writing Program has been instrumental in helping our students organize and elaborate in their writing. Our students go into the testing situation confident and ready to go!
The scores your child received will be mailed to you during the fall of that year. Your child will be in fourth grade by the time any of us see them.
